One Day in France Park, IN

This past Saturday, April 23rd, was the warmest day yet this year. With temperatures reaching 84 degrees Fahrenheit, Dylan and I decided to take advantage of the unusually warm April day and spend it outside. We took a quick drive to Logansport, IN to visit France Park for the first time. I had heard many wonderful things about the lake in the park, but had yet to experience it myself.

France Park is an old abandoned stone quarry, with a little bit of everything to do for everyone. The sandy beach is the perfect place to take a dip and cool off in the summer while looking out on the beautiful quarry cliffs. If you prefer to get under the surface of the water and explore aquatic life, Indy Dive Center provides opportunities to scuba dive on the weekends. There are plenty of open trails to get lost in the woods and cliff sides of the park. To get the most of all the park has to offer, you may choose to make this an overnight trip and camp at one of the many camping sites available. There is the choice between both primitive and full hookup sites with a shower-house available inside the modern camping area.

Dylan and I met up with a couple of his friends at the park. We had a picnic lunch and spent most of the day fishing Elzbeck Lake. Unfortunately, we didn’t catch anything, but we enjoyed soaking in the sun together. After a couple hours of fishing, we ventured over to see the waterfall, one of the most popular things to do in the park. We expected to hike a short trail to find it, but there was a small parking lot nearby. It wasn’t too busy during our visit, but I could see the area overflowing with people during the summer months.

We decided to end this trip with a round of 10 hole putt-putt. The park must not get many adults wanting to play the putt-putt course because they only had 2 adult size putters. It was quite the laugh to see my 6-foot boyfriend use a small 2 foot putter.

After our game of putt putt we made our way into town to get a scoop of ice cream from Sycamore Drive-In, a Logansport summer staple.

I couldn’t have asked for a better warm & sunny April Saturday! We will definitely be back to France Park this summer to enjoy more of what the park has to offer. The next visit will probably have to include kayaking and a round of disc golf on the 24 hole course. If you are ever in the northern Indiana area I highly recommend France Park for all your outdoor adventure fun!

If you are planning a visit in the future, you may want to know there is a $5/person entrance fee into the park. You can find more information on the park here: https://www.co.cass.in.us/departments/e-i/france-park/home
